Actor Rakhi Sawant's husband Adil Durrani was produced at Oshiwara police station in the city on Tuesday after she filed a complaint accusing him of assaulting her and taking away money and jewelery from her flat without her knowledge, an official said.
Citing her statement to the police on Monday night, the official said Sawant, 41, got involved with Durrani, 30, in January 2022 and they opened a joint business account. Unbeknownst to her, Durrani withdrew more than 1.5 million rupees from that account in June to buy a car, but she did not object because he said he would marry her, Sawant told police, according to the official.
Later, Durrani allegedly assaulted Sawant, a former Bigg Boss contestant, twice and made her file a non-cognizable complaint against him, he said. According to Sawant, Durrani threatened her more than once that he would throw acid on her face or kill her in a road accident, the official said. Sawant also accused Durrani of forcing her to offer 'namaz', he said.
On Sunday evening, Sawant found Rs 5 lakh cash and her mother's jewelery worth Rs 2.5 lakh missing from her cupboard. She then learned from the watchman of her Andheri building that Durrani had visited the flat in her absence, the official said.
Sawant then approached the Oshiwara police on Monday night, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was registered against Durrani under sections 406 (breach of trust) and 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Indian Penal Code, the official said.
Police have not arrested anyone yet, the official said.
